One Congregation.
Two Locations.

Our congregation has been blessed by having two locations.  Our main campus is located in downtown Wheeling on the corner of Chapline and 14th Street.  Our second campus is called Churchfield, located on Heiskell and Maple Avenue in the Woodsdale neighborhood.  St. John’s Chapel is our worship space at our Churchfield location.

Worship is at the heart of St. Matthew’s.  Members and visitors alike will find energy, comfort, and joy in the Episcopal liturgy.  Our Wednesday and Saturday services are without music, and tend to be quiet and reflective in nature. Our Sunday service is accompanied by our choir, with traditional sacred music. Check our parish calendar often for special music concerts and seasonal worship offerings, such as Evensong or Night Prayer in the Taizé tradition.   • St. Matthew's -- Downtown Campus

    Parking is available in our lot on the corner of Chapline and 14th Street. On-street parking is also available on the surrounding streets. Our handicap entrance (with elevator access) is on the corner of Chapline and 15th Street. This service is a celebration of the Eucharist lasting about an hour, with choral accompaniment by our parish choir. Coffee, tea, and catching up (Coffee Hour in Episcopal circles) takes place in our parish hall following the service.

  • St. Elizabeth's Chapel -- Downtown Campus

    This worship service is best accessed by our entrance on the corner of Chapline and 15th Street. It is a quiet, simple service with Communion, and lasts about 30 minutes.

  • St. John's -- Churchfield Campus

    Parking is available on-street in the neighborhood (though many residents of the Woodsdale neighborhood choose to walk). Our Saturday service in St. John’s Chapel is without music, lasts about 45 minutes, and is a celebration of the Eucharist.

Night Prayer

On the first Sunday of every month (October-May) we offer a Night Prayer service at 7:00pm at St. John’s Chapel. This service is a hybrid of Episcopal Prayer Book liturgy along with songs and prayers from the Taizé community in France. This once-a-month service is notable for its use of candlelight, simple chants, readings from the Holy Scriptures, sacred silence, and prayer. If you’re looking for a quiet and meditative worship service to close out your weekend, then we believe you will find this an enriching experience.

In the summer months, we have Night Prayer on the lawn at a later time in the evening when it is a little darker outside. Connect with the office if you’d like more information!
