The Best is not BehindPosted by Mark in Untagged |

and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now." John 2:10
It is not at all unusual for us to reflect on what is past and think it was better than the present. And further it is not unusual for us to comment that things only seem to be getting worse. There is abroad the idea that the scripture tells that the world is 'going to hell in a hand basket' and that only God's miraculous intervention will save us from a cataclysmic end.
In John's story of water turned into wine - the first of Jesus' acts in this gospel - we are told the exact opposite. We are told and shown much to our surprise that God is saving the best for last. We are being told in the most unexpected way and at the most unexpected time but in a rather ordinary way God will surprise us with something better than all that has come before.
Logically this means that contrary to popular wisdom we are not getting worse instead the best is yet to come. We people of faith must believe and proclaim the best is yet to come.
